5/1

Penny came to church today! Sat with Sister Hirner during (a) Sacrament and cried during (b) testimony meeting as the (c) Spirit touched her I imagine very deeply. She rather enjoyed that.

Eddie Reyes also came to church with his two boys, Miguel and Devin. He enjoyed the meetings.

After Penny dropped us off, we did some contacting and visited Patti Blose.

Guess who was home from Ricks and at church: Brittany Batman and Mary Savitz. Couldn't believe it!

We did OK in the month of April (d) goal wise. 15/14 first discussions and went over on phone / face-to-face contacts.

******************************

(a) Sacrament is what members of the LDS refer to as our main worship meeting. It is called Sacrament Meeting because we take the bread and water in remembrance of Christ's atoning sacrifice and in so doing renew our baptismal covenants. It is one of, if not the most, sacred ordinance in our church.

(b) Testimony meeting takes place on the first Sunday each month. Members of the congregation are invited to come to the pulpit and take a few minutes to share their testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel, or something that has helped them to gain a testimony. It can often be a very unpredictable meeting because anyone can go up to give their testimony, and the definition of a "testimony" can have a wide range of meaning depending on the location and/or what has been going on in someone's life.

(c) The Spirit refers to the Holy Ghost and this is the source of the good feelings we enjoy in sacred places as well as the inspiration or motivation behind all of the important decisions in our life when we pray and seek guidance from above. The Spirit is God's messenger and someone who testifies of the truthfulness of all things.

(d) Goals are an important part of a mission. We keep track of our daily, weekly, and monthly efforts as a way to track our progress and success in doing the Lord's work. More important than the numeric information, of course, is the manner in which the work is done: out of love, first and foremost.
