The Oakland A's along with Pepsi and the other Bay Area sports teams, news and radio stations hosted their 9th annual Mug Root Beer float party before today's A's game. As a present to myself, I got the perfect seat behind home plate for today's game against the Royals. The A's have been on a nose dive in the standings, dropping 11 of their past 14 games. But that's all beside the point. The real action today was in the East Side Club where the so-called celebrities were hanging out.
So let's see, the A's had lots of players on hand to help scoop ice cream, pour root beer, and sign autographs. Dallas Braden, Gerry DiNardo, Mark Ellis, Huston Street, and the legendary (soon-to-be Hall of Famer) Rickey Henderson. Plus, Ray Fosse and Duane Kuiper were there with some of the players' wives.
Several radio stations including The Bone, 94.9 FM, and KMEL were there. NBC 11 and KTVU were there. The Raiderettes, Warrior Girls, and Saberkittens were there. The San Jose Earthquakes and Sharks were there. I bumped into a couple of Bay Area mascots: Thunder and (Warriors) and Stomper (A's). I guess the "so-called celebrities" were Jenn and Tyrie from MTV's "Real World: Denver" cast. I skipped past that.
My highlight of the day was getting to meet Rickey Henderson. He was my baseball hero growing up. He's sure to be voted to the Hall of Fame next Spring and is baseball's all-time stolen base leader, among other things.

WHAT A VIEW!
LET'S GO A'S!
