Mom's Birthday and the Zucchini Festival

This weekend was rather fun!

Well, aside from dealing with "Crazy Next Door"...

on Wednesday (court, restraining order),

Thursday (parking lot confrontation with apartment manager & police)

and Friday (5-year old son of neighbor delivers bullets, police, handcuffs, jail, CPS),

... we actually were able to relax and enjoy ourselves somewhat. What a relief!

Gotta love drug-induced psychosis, baby! "Just say no!"

My lovely wife Kari ended up in bed napping through most of the action on Saturday (my mom's birthday) and Sunday (Zucchini Festival), but then again, that's probably a good thing because she is always tired. So, she got in plenty of well-earned rest both days this weekend.

I believe Kari also got back on track walking this weekend, (Saturday morning) resuming her regimen from before the Avon Walk, although I'm guessing she and Kathi weren't exactly going for 26 miles. Regardless, Kari will probably get back into the routine of walking again.

Kari is also nearly finished with "Breaking Dawn" by the way. I'm sure it has been tough to sit and read with all of the excitement we've been through this summer.

Also, Will woke up from his nap this afternoon with some ghastly kind of bug bites on his belly button area, left ear lobe, behind his shoulder, on his legs. So, we're being very careful with that situation. In fact, Misters has a 9:15am appointment with our pediatrician in the morning. If anything changes, we'll go right in. For now, Kari treated it as advised by the advice nurse. Hope my little guy will be all right.

Meanwhile, this weekend...

It ended up on Saturday that Claire, Will, and I helped celebrate my mom's birthday party in El Cerrito yesterday (08/16).

We opened gifts right after I arrived with the kids. For gifts, I got my mom a couple of humorous books from Barnes & Noble. I also got James and Bridget their gifts finally - also from BN.

After opening gifts, we spent time riding bikes out front, and then playing horseshoes and baseball in the backyard. Casey and Eldy were over visiting with Madelin and Gabriela. James and Bridget were over with Aidan and Molly. It was great to see Grandma Dot as well. She is doing as well as can be expected.

Baseball out back was a blast. Claire is quite the slugger as the video below attests. Enjoy!

Claire took on the role of "motivational speecher" (sorry, Mom) as she coached Aidan to "Keep your eye on the ball!!!!" Seemed to work. Aidan knocked one clear over the fence!

What in the name of BALCO is going on here?

Once we went back inside, the cousins played dress-up and performed many "So You Think You Can Dance" numbers. It was hilarious. Mom says, "Aidan, do some hip hop." Aidan goes, "What's hip hop?" Claire stepped in and did a break-dance routine, which she finished with an arms-wide-open, "What?!?!?!"

For dinner we enjoyed delicious Zachary's Pizza (my personal all-time favorite). Then it was time to head home with the kiddos.

After church today we had an engagement at the Hayward Zucchini Festival. Yep, didn't even know there was such a thing!

Go Figure.
Did you know "chewbacca" means zucchini in Spanish?
Ask Molly.

While we didn't end up trying any of the zucchini, Claire, Aidan, and Molly helped put on an impressive performance with Dance Theater Arts.
