On Friday night I was fortunate to get home from a rousing Staff Development Day to receive an invitation to the Giants game with Jonathan Monte. It was very thoughtful of Kari to let me have some fun at the ballpark, and so off I went!
Unlike my last trip to AT&T Park last June to see the Bay Bridge Series, the Giants were squaring off against the hated L.A. Dodgers in the first game of the final series of the year. Granted, the Dodgers were only set to start their top players for a few innings as they prepare for the playoffs. Still, it's Giants and Dodgers and in baseball, few rivalries match this one.
The Dodgers pulled ahead on a Jeff Kent home run.
Giants catcher, Benji Molina, hit a home run to tie the game at 2-2. The ball he hit was reviewed by the umpiring crew using instant replay and was ruled a home run. In an odd twist of events, the Giants' pinch runner, Emmanuel Burriss, who had subbed in for Molina, was ordered to finish rounding the bases on the home run. So the Giants, who wanted Molina back in the game after the home run was declared, finished the game under protest.
In the end, the Dodgers took the lead in the 9th on a 2-run homer. The Giants battled back in the 9th to tie the game on a sacrifice fly. And in the 10th, Dave Roberts singled in Omar Vizquel for the exciting finish. We learned of the finish on Jonathan's Blackberry in the CV BART Station parking lot.
We had great seats in the Club Section in left field. They actually have Guest Services stationed in this section to take your order when you want to eat and/or drink. That was convenient! We both enjoyed some unique Giants treats: the San Francisco burger and Gilroy Garlic Fries. I was too far away to get a Cha Cha Bowl. But this burger compares with the best of the Bay Area in my opinion. It was delicious!
So, "Bye, Bye Baby!" The Giants win!
