"Up," Up, and Away!

Claire joined me yesterday as I attended my second movie of the summer season: Disney / Pixar's latest hit, "Up." We chose to see it in Disney's Digital 3D which turned out to be a plus. I also avoided the mistake of attending on opening day at night. The first movie I attended earlier in May, "Wolverine," (which I enjoyed, nonetheless) proved to be very challenging to watch with all the excitement and a combination of obnoxious and crude behavior on all sides of a packed house. We gave this movie a couple of weeks and then saw it at 11am on Monday morning. Now that is careful planning.

Last summer Claire and I enjoyed "Wall-E" and quite frankly, we're fans of all the Pixar movies. The short films they traditionally play before the feature presentation are always entertaining and this year's film was no letdown.

"Partly Cloudy" is about the storks that deliver all the babies and baby animals to the world. It focuses in particular on one stork who is paired up with one of the Cloud (Gods?) that forms life and gives them (babies, animals) to deliver down on Earth below.
Except this cloud, a little darker than the rest, is busy making all of the creatures that bite (alligator), sting (electric eel), and ram (mountain goat) things and the poor stork never stands a chance. It has a cute little twist.

I really don't want to give away much about "Up."

Perhaps a brief synopsis: Carl Fredricksen spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and experiencing life to its fullest. But at age 78, life seems to have passed him by, until a twist of fate (and a persistent 8-year old Junior Wilderness Explorer named Russell) gives him a new lease on life.

Be sure to get out and enjoy this soon-to-be award-winning movie soon!
