One of my best friends, Jonathan, invited me to join his wife, Sarah, and friend, Tim, at the first preseason game for the S.F. 49ers. His parents are serving at the Mexico City Temple and he traditionally goes with his dad to a preseason Niners game. So this year he is newly married and decided to keep the tradition alive! I was happy to help out.
My favorite NFL team is, without a doubt, the S.F. 49ers! I've followed them closely growing up and was richly rewarded along with the rest of the Bay Area as they won five Superbowl titles with two Hall of Fame quarterbacks: Joe Montana, and a fellow Latter-Day Saint, Steve Young.
Times have been tough for the Niners, but they're improving under the leadership of new coach, Mike Singletary. We were eager to get a glimpse of the new team this year and we weren't disappointed. The defense made four interceptions. Britt Miller came on to score two touchdowns on two receptions. It was a close game with a 17-16 finish, but the right team won!
We had great seats in the north end-zone. We got to see the 49ers drumline group, the lovely Gold Rush cheerleaders, and Sourdough Sam. For halftime entertainment, 12-13 year olds played football for about 10 minutes or so. The food was also very tasty. I enjoyed a sausage, fries, and a soft drink. It had a little spicy kick to it and a snap when you bit into it. Yum!
So, here's to a winning season of 49er football! Thanks for a great night out, Jonthan!
