Dec. 18th - The Neutermans brought us to church today. Mikey couldn't make it. He is in Brigantine. But older Michael came and today he passed the Sacrament! Allan and Carla Jett gave us Tuesday night's dinner. They spoke in Sacrament meeting. Sister Linzey gave me a Thank You Card for playing the carols last night. And Peggy Carlson asked me if we could speak at the January Homemaking meeting.
After church, the Neutermans treated us to lunch at a local diner, Rosie's, in Burleigh.
My throat took a beating today. Very sore. Trish bought me some VICKS 44 today which helped. But we stayed in to rest it this afternoon.
I did give Ed Shim a call this afternoon.
It was nice to talk with him. He honestly admitted never praying during his investigation. And confessed that Linda felt uncomfortable at church. So they have been praying and attending the Episcopalian church every other week. He wanted to thank me for all of the help spent in teaching him to pray and teach his children and to attend church. It is disheartening that he never prayed and didn't convert, but I guess not every does, although everyone could and should!
So we had dinner at Jim and Dawn Moore's. We talked about Ed and Linda. We'll treat them (Shims)with cookies and a card along with the Moores. That'll be thoughtful. Dinner and dessert were filling. We offered a prayer and left to the church.
There we saw the First Presidency Christmas Message, from S.L.C. on a delayed broadcast. I took notes on beautiful sermons from Pres. Hunter, Hinckley, and Monson. Music was furnished by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. And Ginger Fenton brought her English friend Celeste, and her daughter, 10-year old Sophie. They seemed to enjoy the messages also.
I also spoke with Phyllis tonight. She seemed to be depressed about missing her husband. I gave her my spiritual advice and consoling words of comfort. She initially called about why our landlord didn't show up to fix the bathtub soap dish which fell off recently. But she was curious about the mission and how it works and if we were taken care of for Christmas. She's a sweet lady.
Then I talked to Porter. And also Perkins after that. Good night!
