BATTLE of the BAY!
Before you "Click to Play" the montage, scroll below and pause the Playlist music.
While the A's tend to lose every time I go to the Coliseum, I guess the secret for me to is travel with team. And so I did last night, to San Francisco for the Battle of the Bay. The A's absolutely own the Giants, and last night was evidence of that.
After a strong start for SF punctuated by a diving catch in shallow left-field by Omar Vizquel, who later made a clean steal of home on A's pitcher Greg Smith, Oakland settled in and put 5 runs on the board. Smith, Keith Foulke, and Huston Street shut down and shut out the SF line-up.
In the past six weeks I've attended ballgames at Safeco (Seattle), McAfee (Oakland), and now AT&T Park (SF). Of the nine ballparks I've traveled to from Washington to Texas, the Giants' ballpark is quite simply the best. No contest.
One of the most compelling reasons why I rank AT&T Park so high overall: the ballpark cuisine. It is first rate when it comes to taste, and they have a WIDE variety of eats including my personal favorite: the Cha-Cha Bowl, at Orlando Cepeda's Caribbean Barbecue.
This mouth-watering dish is made with jerk chicken, white rice, black beans, and pineapple salsa. Magnificent!
Meanwhile, Ron enjoyed some classic Gilroy Garlic Fries without the $4.75 bottled water, thank you very much.
For dessert, we enjoyed another original, scrumptious AT&T treat: Stormin' Norman's Frybreads.
Being rookies with frybread, we had ours with just cinnamon and powdered sugar. On a chilly SF evening, the warmth of the bread totally hit the spot!
This was a great way to kick things off for Father's Day weekend!
I'm looking forward to enjoying the A's game next Saturday night. It's Will's 2nd birthday celebration and his very first big league ballgame!
