After lunch at our favorite Ice Creamery, I took Will to the Village Barber Shop for his first haircut. He seemed very calm as we waited for one of the four barbers busy cutting hair finished up. Little did we know, Will's barber had yet to make it to the shop. Limbo (older Asian barber) wrapped up his last customer for the afternoon and left just as Spence arrived. After getting settled, Will was up.
Spence put a booster seat on his chair and turned on a little electric aquarium thing with rotating fish that caught Will's attention. He had a little plush bird that made chirping noises for Will to hold. He had this plastic ear (eeew gross!) inside a little pocket on the arm of the chair. He knew all the right words to say. He was, in short, the *perfect* barber for Misters' first haircut.
We just got a trim. Spence said that people do different things with their child's first haircut. Some people want to cut it all off and grow back. That's nonsense, he said. "We just want him to know he had a good experience," which Will clearly did. Take a peek at the results!
After the cut, Spence hooked up Will with a classic barber shop treat: a Tootsie Pop!
Then, he presented us with an *official* First Haircut Certificate for having "bravely met all of the requirements of receiving [his] first haircut and graduating from babyhood."
It was truly a memorable father-son moment that I'll always remember. I can't wait for haircut #2!
