I can't say that I've ever been more eager for the start of a NASCAR season than this one. My favorite driver, Jeff Gordon, looks to get back to his winning ways after suffering through an entire season without a single one last year. Hope springs eternal, they say.
Yes, I'm a die-hard Jeff Gordon / NASCAR fan. This June will mark my ninth trip to Sonoma to attend a live event: the Toyota-Save Mart 350. Yes, it falls on a Sunday. I guess this means I'm going to hell. There really is nothing like the smell of burning rubber and gasoline on a crisp summer afternoon in Sonoma. Well, that depends, I suppose. If Jeff Gordon is climbing out of the car in Victory Lane, I suppose that could top it. It's been so long though for #24, I hope we can get back to winning again.
Tomorrow night marks the unofficial beginning of the season with NASCAR's preseason Budweiser Shootout. Past winners and pole-sitters will compete in the exhibition event to be broadcast at 5pm (PST). Last year's winner was Dale Earnhardt, Jr, competing for the first time in a Hendricks Motorsports vehicle. Jimmie Johnson went on to win the 10-race Chase for the Sprint Cup for the third year in a row!
Jeff Gordon unveiled a new paint scheme for this year (featured above). If you're down with NASCAR, let me know. If you aren't, give it a shot tomorrow night. Thanks to the DVR, I really don't have to let my Sundays be consumed throughout the summer with watching the races. I catch them at my convenience.
I'm looking forward to another great season anyhow, so cheers to Jeff Gordon and let's go racing boys!
