Jan. 23rd - I talked to Sister Kirkendall this morning in evaluating the member workshops. The idea came as an answer to prayer for her. And I got a lot of advice, too. It is much needed.
Earlier this morning, I had to go over the weekly numbers, because the ZLs got in after 11pm. I let the APs handle that.
And the ZLs came up today to train me for a few days.
Garlick and I ran to 7-11 for a few items we'll need. Plus, we got the mail. I got lots. Holly wrote. Rach sent me a sweet tape. She had a radio station dedicate a love song for me. I was so embarrassed. But how awesome. I love her. She tried to call tonight, too. But I just said to call on Thurs. or Fri. She understood.
Gillespie and I ate lunch at Burger King and then went tracting unsuccessfully by the church.
After that, we came home to use the restroom and call members. I set up a D/A tomorrow at the Dunlops. And I also arranged to meet with the Huber as soon as I got off the phone.
So we met Sis. Huber and her 2 daughter and son. The other 2 daughters are out West. And her inactive son, Darrell, was at school. Cool family!
And then we drove to Joe Horner's. I loaned him "Jesus, the Christ." And we met his friend, Trish, who we also taught a 00 and 1st disc. to, also. Her boyfriend is in jail. It was kind of a sad discussion, which abruptly ended. She had to go fix dinner or something.
We then tracted that complex and met Andy Baker on the porch of his home. He lived in the same place as a man who, moments, earlier, had rejected us. So we went in and taught Andy (a confessed soul-searcher) about Joseph Smith, prayer (DESK4) and the Book of Mormon.
Gillespie is real jumpy and quick: I noticed it tracting. He just clung to one line to get in. One man and I had quite a dialogue going. I could tell Gillespie wanted to leave. "Do you realize you are freezing on the cold porch, and I am in my warm house, and I have no intention of taking your book?" said the old man.
"I'd freeze until I die to share this with you," I said. He then, opened his door and offered a handshake of respect. What a nice gesture.)
And also, he basically wanted to teach the entire discussion and leave quickly. I was trying to be calm and relate to Andy. Gill isn't a bad man. I just think it would be difficult to such an insincere (at least it feels that way) personality. Oh well. I just let him be him, and am being taught other things as well, I suppose.
We left Andy's for a spaghetti dinner at the Olson's. We really thought a lot about their family. And shared the Ensign present with them for them Family Home Evening. Cute daughter; family.
And then we finished off the long, great, day at the Quicks. There, we talked to Jerry and Jo. Their son is in the Ventura Mission and daughter was released in UT from the Provo Mission to get married. We had a great conversation.
They showed me E. Landsaw's wedding announcement. Wow. He got released from his mission early for dating a girl. Hmmm....
So, we got home and through numbers and to bed. Good night!
