Feb. 16th - Sister Dunlop drove Elder Garlick and I to Broomall. I had a trainer's conference. President Morley emphasized showing our emotions and being ourselves with our companions. Our mission needs leaders and this transfer is a great group of Golden Missionaries. My mindset to train this year is entirely different than last year. I am much more mature and my spirituality is greater, so I am very excited to "start over" on my mission with my new companion who is Nick Olson, from West Jordan, UT. His brother is the composer, Kevin R. Olson, who wins the New Era contests. My comp. is quite an accomplished pianist!
We immediately got to work after lunch and transfers. The prayer to close trainer's conf. by E. Wiley mentioned "... we can work so hard that we forget having lunch ... " We fulfilled that prophecy!
We changed and headed to YMCA and E. Olson got quickly accustomed to the children hanging on him. We had fun.
Then, it was time for dinner, and we ate roast beef with the Ahrens family. After, we sang church songs and listened to some music that E. Olson's brother composed.
We tried to visit a few members, and then went by the chapel. There we met the Carrells, Clays, Olsons, Roaches, Dunlops, everybody. Plus ... we went by the Family History Center and were able to talk to one man working on his genealogy. I explained why we create libraries of this nature and our feelings about family history work. It was a neat conversation.
We decided to go to the local ACME to pick up a few groceries for E. Olson. When we pulled into the parking lot, we saw a man pouring oil into his engine. So I approached him and we got to talking?
"Do you read?" I asked him. "Sure," he replied slowly.
"Would you like to read a book that contains the actual visit of Jesus Christ to America?" I said.
His eyes lit up and we began to explain the contents of the Book and the powerful testimonies we have that it is true. E. Olson shared Moroni's promise and for the first time on his mission, had the opportunity to bear his testimony that he knew the Book is true! We even invited George to be baptized! So we arranged to meet him tomorrow evening. So exciting!
We cam home and planned and I showed him the Area Book. We were zonked after I finished numbers. Got to be around 11:15. Zzzzz.
