I finally was able to go to ESPN.com and review the scoreboard for the Week 1 results of NCAA football!
How 'bout Kevin Riley coming through once again for the Bears? Their victory over Michigan State was exciting! Now they head to Pullman to face the Wash St Cougars, fresh off an opening day defeat to the Oklahoma St Cowboys. Here's hoping the Golden Bears travel well.
The Monday night affair at the Rose Bowl was epic. The last 5 minutes of regulation was just fantastic. A real see-saw battle. In the end, it was the legs that made the difference, and apparently Coach Fullmer will have to keep on biting his nails at the end of close games. A nice intro to Coach Neuheisal meanwhile for UCLA. Look out Pete Carroll.
Speaking of Pete Carroll, wow. USC looks mighty fresh with that line-up. I'm not sure if Ohio State is going to survive their trip to the LA Coliseum or not. Holy crap. We may very well be aiming for Kirk Herbstreit's predicted BCS title game: Trojans / Gators. You think? Florida looked hot against the Warriors on Saturday to the tune of 56-points in the Swamp.
What else stood out? The NCAA's highest scoring team of Week 1 - Arizona - also pitched a shutout against the dregs of the WAC, Idaho. The Vandals were, well, vandalized. Badly. They've got their in-state rivalry match-up with Idaho St this weekend. Maybe they can put together the pieces in time.
In my first 14 must-see games of the year, I'm 9-5. I was totally off on a few: Louisville? Yikes. The Cards got their asses kicked by Kentucky, 27-2. I also missed on UCLA, Rutgers, Washington St, and once again, Michigan. The Wolverines have a LOT of work to do to get in gear for this season. How do you feel about the Big Ten this year? Penn States to lose?
As for this upcoming week's slate of games, my "must-see" include:
Miami vs Florida (I'll take the Gators)
South Florida vs UCF (I'm taking the Bulls)
Penn St vs Oregon St (After Stanford blast the Oregon St last week, the REAL Beavers will emerge in a Penn St victory)
BYU vs Washington (The Ducks slaughtered the Huskies. I'm going with BYU, give or take a trick play)
Arizona St vs Stanford (Tough to go against Harbaugh & Co, but I'm taking the upstart Sun Devils)
and lastly, CAL vs Washington St (Here's to 2-0 with Jahvid Best, Kevin Riley & Co)
What are your thoughts?
